With a tremendous career, Wayne created history at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics by becoming the first South African to win an Olympic medal (bronze) in 32 years. He followed up at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics by reaching the quarter-finals in both the singles and doubles events. Ferreira played more than 800 singles matches in a career that spanned 16 years and holds the record for the most consecutive Grand Slam tournament appearances, having played in 56 Grand Slam tournaments in a row between 1991 and 2004.
