Son of a tennis coach, Tommy Haas showed promise at an incredibly early age, winning his first youth tournament when he was just five years old. In 1996, after much childhood success, he became a professional tennis player at the age of just 18. In 2001, he began to make huge strides in his tennis career; winning four ATP titles and reached a career-high ranking of World No. 2 in May 2002, racking up wins against the likes of Andy Roddick, Pete Sampras and Roger Federer. However, due to a combination of personal reasons and injury, Haas had to stop playing between 2002 and 2004. By 2007, Haas, with his trademark long hair now cut short, had battled his way to his third Australian Open semi-final and into the U.S Open quarter-finals. He returned to the Top 10 of the world rankings for the first time since 2002. His current ATP ranking currently stands at 37.
